Partnering with Fontys ICT InnovationLab

Together, we can do more. It is this mindset that drives us to actively collaborate with innovators who share our passion for new solutions. Our latest partner in innovation is the Fontys ICT InnovationLab, an initiative created by the Fontys University of Applied Sciences, School of ICT. The InnovationLab allows students to explore and develop their talents and bring fresh ideas to existing industry challenges.

Make, create, innovate and educate

Their motto is “make, create, innovate and educate”, and the Fontys ICT InnovationLab was created to encourage collaboration between students, academic leaders, and industry partners for the benefit of future generations. The Fontys ICT InnovationLab is located in a former Philips building at business park Strijp-T in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The building has an open workspace, with dedicated areas for different working groups. Several research groups work in the lab in the field of Interaction Design, Embedded Systems, Big Data, Game Design & Technology and Cyber Security, and many more.

Hendrix Genetics has partnered with the Fontys ICT InnovationLab to develop sustainable and innovative solutions for the agriculture industry. By working together with students, we aim to bring greater awareness to the many opportunities for advancement and growth in the agri-food sector.

Innovative steps in turkey breeding

The first project we will collaborate on is the development of an autonomous robot for turkey egg collection. As of today, turkey eggs are collected by farm laborers who must match each egg with its respective hen in order to collect accurate data for breeding selection. For enhanced biosecurity and efficiency, an egg robot would be a step forward in innovative processing. The project is set to run from September until January 2020.

“With Hendrix Genetics’ breeding expertise and global presence, together, we will focus on innovation through joint practice-oriented research", says Ad Vissers, director of Fontys School of ICT.
