Hendrix Genetics invests €10 million to drive innovation in Turkey genetics

Kitchener, Canada – September 3, 2025 – Hendrix Genetics is accelerating the genetic engine of its turkey breeding program with a multi-year, €10 million investment in research and development. This investment is an additional commitment beyond the company’s existing R&D budget, reinforcing its dedication to innovation and long-term progress in animal genetics. As a strategic initiative, it marks a significant milestone in Hendrix Genetics’ efforts to deliver year-over-year improvements in turkey genetics, marketed globally under the Hybrid Turkeys brand.

The investment will focus on three pillars of the genetic progress: increasing selection intensity, improving the accuracy of breeding values, and expanding genetic variation. “As the turkey market demands shift and challenges intensify, staying ahead requires continuous innovation”, says Andrew Hunt, Managing Director for the Turkeys Business Unit. Hendrix Genetics is committed to advancing critical traits such as feed efficiency, body weight, breast meat and livability – all of which directly impact customer profitability and the sustainability of the value chain.

To support these goals, the company will upgrade and expand its facilities in North America and Europe. The investment will enable the integration of advanced tools and technologies to enhance the data collection accuracy and efficiency, while streamlining the pipeline that brings top genetics to market. By augmenting data collection, refining selection models, and integrating cutting-edge technologies within its European and North American pedigree facilities, Hendrix Genetics aims to accelerate genetic progress and deliver tangible value to its customers.

This investment is a key milestone in the future of our breeding program”, says Charlie de Hollander, Director of Research and Development for the Turkeys Business Unit. “It allows us to scale up data collection, optimize resources, and ultimately drive genetic progress that benefits our customers directly.

With this investment, Hendrix Genetics is laying the foundation for a future where innovation drives measurable genetic improvements in turkey breeding across every generation, continuing the legacy of excellence established by its Hybrid Turkeys brand.
